2020 Hosparus Tea: The Wizard of Oz

What do you know about Hosparus Health? For more than 40 years, thousands of people living with serious and life-limiting illnesses in Kentucky and Indiana have relied on Hosparus Health to help them get the most out of each day. They provide compassionate pallative and hospice care wherever our patients call home. Their nationally recognized Care Teams offer medical care and pain management, individual and family counseling, personal care, companionship, spiritual care, and so much more. The Hosparus Tea helps fund efforts for Hosparus Health and we hope to see you there. Read on to learn more about attending the event, decorating a table or becoming a sponsor.

About the Hosparus Tea

The Hosparus Tea has been going on for over 25 years here in Elizabethtown. Last year alone 440 people attended with 35 celebrity waiters and 30 volunteers. The Tea is a community effort. Guests arrive and are seated at tables designed by local businesses and individuals following the theme. There is a decorating contest, a small trophy is involved and the event includes live and silent auctions. The theme of the event for 2020 is The Wizard of Oz. Tables will be decorated along with the theme.


Schedule of Events

This year the event will kick off at The Pritchard Community Center located at 404 S. Mulberry in Elizabethtown on the afternoon of Saturday, March 21 at 2:00pm and go until 4:00pm. The event is MCed by Bryce Shumate and festivities include:

  • Table Decorating by local businesses and individuals; to register to decorate a table contact Ginny Whitt at (270) 268-8251 or gwhitt@hosparus.org.

  • Tea served by local celebrities (businessmen) dressed in tuxes generously provided by Tuxedo Avenue. In addition to hot tea, there will be a selection of savory and sweet hors d'oeuvres.

  • The Silent Auction will take place throughout the event. Silent Auction items are fun, unique items provided by businesses and community members.

  • The Live Auction will take place throughout the event with auctioneer Bruce Reeves.

  • The winner of the table decorating contest will be announced the day of the event during the tea.


NEW this year

Coordinating with the theme of the Hosparus Tea, tickets to the Wizard of Oz at Crowne Point Theatre will be sold during the event by a dance troupe dressed in Wizard of Oz costumes. Tickets will be $8, 75% of which will be donated directly to Hosparus Health. The movie is sponsored by Tender Touch Senior Living. The showing will take place on April 19 at 1:00pm at Crowne Point Theatre in Elizabethtown.


FAQ

Are there still tables available to decorate?

Yes. Contact Ginny Whitt at (270) 268-8251 or gwhitt@hosparus.org. It is FREE to decorate a table; you will be responsible for providing decorations and setting up the Friday afternoon prior to the event from 3:00pm-5:00pm or the morning of the event 8:00am-11:00am.


What is needed to decorate?

A centerpiece and chargers or decorative plates, coffee or tea cups, water glasses, forks and spoons for eight. Chairs, 60-inch round tables, white table cloths and napkins are provided, but many decorators bring their own chairs, linens and napkins.


If we decorate a table, do we have to attend?

No. Attendance is not required to decorate a table; many businesses decorate tables to promote their businesses and cannot attend.


Do attendees have to decorate tables?

No. Anyone can attend the event; tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children available through Ginny Whitt at (270) 268-8251 or gwhitt@hosparus.org.


Can our friends all sit together?

Yes. When tickets are purchased through Ginny Whitt at (270) 268-8251 or gwhitt@hosparus.org you can request to sit at a table with a group of friends; there is a form to submit with your group names listed to be seated together.


How does one sign up to be a celebrity waiter?

Potential waiters can contact Ginny Whitt at (270) 268-8251 or gwhitt@hosparus.org to sign up. There are set days and times to be fitted for a tuxedo at Tuxedo Avenue.
